Program Specialist, Resilient Careers in Forestry, Workforce Development
100% Remote in California; Must be a California Resident and reside in California
The Foundation’s Workforce Development Department (WDD) aims to ensure that all learners in California obtain the knowledge, skills, experiences, and networks needed to connect with meaningful work, expand career options, and increase economic and social mobility. WDD is seeking a skilled and motivated Specialist to support the implementation of a new large-scale workforce development initiative in California forestry and fire safety sectors. This position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a high-profile, high-impact project that will benefit the landscapes and residents of California.
California Resilient Careers in Forestry
is a multi-year Foundation-led workforce development project, funded by the federal Economic Development Administration’s Good Jobs Challenge fund. The goal of the project is to build the skilled workforce California needs to address forest management with a focus on supporting students and training participants to move into good jobs in the forestry and fire safety sectors. The Foundation serves as the planning and coordinating hub for a network of partners that includes community colleges, state universities, CBOs, state agencies, and multiple departments and programs with the Foundation.
What You’ll Do
- The Specialist will develop and maintain organizational partnerships to increase enrollment in training programs that span the forest health and fire safety sectors and promote the various professional and technical careers necessary and available to support California’s healthy forest industry, with a focus on reaching high school-aged youth.
- Additionally, the Specialist will coordinate provision of wraparound supports that minimize barriers to educational completion and professional entry to ensure equitable access to good jobs in forestry.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of forestry, conservation, natural resource management, agriculture, and/or bioeconomy preferred.
- Identify and execute opportunities across partner networks to promote careers and various training and experience pathways in forest health and fire safety among high school-aged youth, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, such as relevant associations, organizations, agencies, and educational institutions.
- Demonstrate initiative and creativity to develop and deliver presentations for students, educational leadership, faculty, administrators, staff, and other partners.
- Participate in promotional events and presentations to promote careers, training programs, and experience pathways in forest health and fire safety.
- Gather and share information from the field to inform an iterative project communications strategy.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the Foundation around career development and college enrollment outreach to high school students, including those in alternative and charter schools.
- Collaborate with the communications team on developing messaging and content for various communication activities, products, and platforms to maximize stakeholder support.
- Work with internal and external partners to establish a process to effectively deliver and track supportive services (transportation, childcare, personal protective equipment, etc.) for Resilient Careers in Forestry participants.
- Relevant BA/BS or equivalent work experience, or a combination of both.
- Minimum of three to five (3-5) + years of related work experience.
- Minimum of two (2) + years of experience in an education or non-profit environment preferred.
- Knowledge of fundamental workforce development concepts preferred.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, the California Community College system, K-12 education system, and the Foundation’s mission.

Budgeted Hourly Pay Range:
$29 – $36
Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.
