The Sol-Eng Team
Posit’s Solutions Engineering (Sol-Eng) team aims to reduce the distance between Posit’s customers and our Pro and Open Source offerings. We lead with curiosity and technical excellence, combining deep knowledge of our products and market, empathy, and kindness. The team understands IT/Admin practices and tools to help customers deploy, install, configure, and use our professional products.
Missions at Posit
- Collaborate with Sales to prove the technical value of our software in demos, customer proof of concepts, and live Q&A.
- Help customers get up and running in architecture and advisory sessions, as well as long-term engagements.
Our customer-facing work yields deep expertise, used to provide the voice of the customer inside Posit. We experiment with product configurations and integrations, creating websites, articles, documents, presentations, and demos to share with customers.
In customer meetings, we engage with IT/Admins installing, configuring, and integrating Posit’s Pro Products. We also meet with data scientists and teams to enhance their workflows using Posit’s Pro Products. The team comprises 17 members, including a director and one manager.
The Role
As a manager reporting to the head of Sol-Eng, you play an essential role in the team’s leadership. Your responsibilities include:
- Developing the team’s people and processes.
- Hiring and onboarding new team members.
- Leading the pre-sales focused parts of our work, collaborating with Sales and managing relevant staff.
- Handling pre-sales customer escalations.
Additionally, you assist in setting the team’s direction, building a culture of psychological safety, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. You also contribute to creating team-wide processes, communicating with other teams, and ensuring alignment with the company’s goals.
Broad Timeline
By the end of your third month, you will have:
- Met the Sol-Eng team and a meaningful fraction of the company.
- Installed and configured our Pro Products, gaining hands-on experience.
- Joined customer calls, including demos and IT architecture discussions.
- Begun managing 3-4 team members.
By the end of your first year, you will have:
- Begun managing several people.
- Owned part of the team’s process for identifying and completing work.
- Identified opportunities for meaningful improvement to team processes.
- Developed relationships with people across the company.
