Job Overview
Be your own boss but still get the benefit of working with a great team! Approximately 160 hours per month, but it is negotiable. The accountant is an independent contractor and requires your own business license. The Accountant will work with multiple clients performing accounting functions. This position will be involved with all areas of accounting for clients that include Alaska Native Corporations engaged in Federal Government Contracting and Alaska Tribes. This is a great opportunity to get expertise in two leading industries in Alaska and learn new systems.
Rate: $40-$60/hour, DOE
Location: AKST or PST time zones preferred
Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Work with multiple clients provided accounting functions – initially in QB Online.
- Process Payroll and file all associated reports and pay taxes.
- Setup new projects according to contract terms.
- Track and monitor active projects.
- Review A/P invoices for accuracy and proper coding, get appropriate approvals and enter into system.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare project ledger to general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare bank reconciliations.
- Prepare journal entries.
- Prepare financial statement analysis.
- Prepare audit support workpapers.
- Effectively communicate with project managers, customers and other stakeholders.
- Assist with preparing customer invoices.
- Contracts tracking and management.
- Subcontractor setup and management.
- Cash tracking and forecasting.
- Vendor payment processing.
- Preparation of monthly or quarterly financial presentations/reports.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field (may be substituted for minimum of two years of direct relevant experience). Minimum of two years of accounting or related experience. Experience with QuickBooks preferred. Ability to pass a background check if needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and practices preferred.
- G/L experience; experience with Payroll, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable; advanced knowledge and skills in computerized accounting systems and knowledge of company-specific software.
- Proficiency in standard computer software, application programs and e-mail; typing 45 wpm and 10-key by touch.
- QuickBooks expertise.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel or willing to learn.
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint or willing to learn.
- Sage 300 or Deltek CostPoint experience a bonus but not required.
- Must have efficient and accurate data entry skills with the ability to double-check work.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, business partners, and clients via written and verbal communication methods.
- Ability to work from home – good internet and telephone access, must have own computer with proper security protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information; ability to use judgment and discretion.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.

Physical Demands

Benefits: None. This is an independent 1099 contractor position. Consultant/contractor is responsible for payment of any federal, state or local taxes applicable to the compensation received from TSC.
