THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is looking for an individual with excellent communication skills to join our team and make a difference!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Career Advisor, proficient communication skills are essential as you will be responsible for maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers and partners. You will be required to stay up to date on applicable workforce development laws and policies. Responsibilities may include, but may not be limited to:
- Conducting vocational and career assessments of job seekers
- Providing career guidance to assist job seekers in making and carrying out career decisions
- Identifying suitability for and barriers to employment and training, as well as appropriate tools and resources for job seekers to achieve employment goals
- Developing and conducting workshops, presentations, and orientation to services
- Planning and conducting group and individual career counseling and coaching on resume writing, interviewing, job search, networking, and other topics
- Coordinating support and related services with other providers, tracking progress toward goals, and providing follow-up activities
- Enrolling and assisting job seekers with enrolling in PA CareerLink Online
- Providing services to employers, including making contacts, analyzing workforce needs, analyzing occupations to determine the skill set needed by job seekers, coordinating recruitment services, referring qualified job seekers, contacting businesses to develop jobs when no suitable postings exist, and proposing hiring strategies to address workforce issues
- Searching for, verifying, and approving or rejecting new employer information in compliance with requirements
- Assisting businesses with posting vacancies in PA CareerLink Online
- Serving as lead worker on integrated teams of PA CareerLink staff to provide services to job seekers and employers

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Washington
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Career Advisor Trainee (commonwealth title) training program; or
- One year of experience interviewing the public to collect and identify customer needs, evaluating eligibility for programs, and researching data to make decisions, and a bachelor’s degree; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
Other Requirements:
