Summary:

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) is the leading animal poison control call center in the nation. Our professional team provides 24/7 support to veterinarians and pet owners, utilizing a proprietary database with over four million cases. Committed to protecting and improving animal lives, the APCC focuses on poison prevention and publishes new findings. Handling over 400,000 calls and managing 300,000 cases annually, we play a crucial role in safeguarding animals.

Consulting Veterinarian in Clinical Toxicology (CVCT):

The CVCT systematically gains toxicology knowledge through the APCC’s training process. Responsible for managing cases involving animals exposed to potentially dangerous substances, the CVCT shares expertise with various stakeholders. The role involves consultation for support staff, participation in projects and events, and potential career paths within the ASPCA.

CVCTs may be eligible to sit for the American Board of Toxicology exam and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology exam after 3 years.

This is a regional remote position. Candidates must reside within 250 miles of the ASPCA Office in Champaign, IL, and be available for travel to Champaign, IL.

Schedule:

Staff will work daytime hours during initial training and later shifts based on seniority. Occasional full overnight shifts and partial overnight shifts may be required to cover vacations.

Responsibilities:

  • Case Management (90%):
    • Professionally manage cases initiated by telephone
    • Obtain complete case histories and provide detailed diagnostic and treatment recommendations
    • Enter information into the electronic record
  • Training, Professional Development, and Supporting Opportunities (up to 10%):
    • Actively participate in training and mentorship
    • Publish case reports or educational documents
