The Senior Product Specialist (Genetic Testing Solutions) will concentrate on growing our genetic testing business in areas such as pharmacogenomics and infectious disease. The Senior Product Specialist should demonstrate a clear understanding of customer needs and selling requirements to be successful in CLIA & NY State Certified laboratories such as reference laboratories and healthcare laboratory settings. Customers span a range of throughput and technologies including clinical testing and physician-owned laboratories. To be fully effective, the Senior Product Specialist must clearly understand gene expression and genotyping workflows across multiple technologies, particularly in quantitative PCR, digital PCR, and sequencing.
The Senior Product Specialist will be responsible for:
- Achieving revenue growth in genetic testing products and services
- Attaining sales quota
- Developing relationships with consultants and key opinion leaders (KOL’s)
Another strategic focus of the role is the development of relationships with consultants and key opinion leaders (KOL’s), with the purpose of cultivating positive references and valuable voice of the customer back to Thermo Fisher. As a member of a matrix organization, it is important to have good communications and alignment with the local district sales teams, channel partners, and business partners within Thermo Fisher.
A Day in the Life:
- Demonstrate market knowledge of genetic testing for Infectious Disease and Pharmacogenomics
- Understand the molecular diagnostic market for both regulated products and laboratory developed tests (LDTs)
- Develop and manage an annual Territory Plan and quarterly business plans
- Use product and application knowledge across our genetic testing portfolio
- Consistently and accurately manage sales process including sales forecasting, pipeline management, and sales tracking using SalesForce and other designated IT tools
- Regularly use analytics tools and CRM to drive territory success and achieve plan
- Provide input on sales team training needs and market intelligence
Keys of Success:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field; or the equivalent knowledge and experience
- Master’s or PhD degree is desirable
Experience:
- 4+ years of sales experience in Life Sciences or clinical markets (highly preferred)
- qPCR Capital Equipment Sales or equivalent instrumentation used for diagnostic testing
- Experience in molecular diagnostic sales, with special emphasis on laboratory developed tests (LDTs)
- Proven track record selling to decision makers and business leaders/owners
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to drive for results to meet sales objectives and attain company goals
- Proven ability to manage a sales strategy throughout the sales process and evaluate customer’s business data
- Understands the genetic testing market: customer’s industry, business process, critical success factors, competitive standing
- Builds effective relationships, collaborates, and communicates clearly
- Articulates value by linking solutions to key customer challenges and opportunities, comfortable influencing and negotiating
- Located within the defined geography of the territory
- Minimum of 50% travel expected by car, train & airplane
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Must have scientific consulting competence -demonstrates extensive knowledge of qPCR and digital PCR technologies and applications
- Ability to accurately cost projects and speak to workflow advantages to create return on investment with the customers and sales colleagues
- Accomplished sales skills and can speak to competitive technologies, demonstrate value as a supporting partner in the pre-sales process, while also independently driving sales throughout all stages of the sales process
- Ability to effectively navigate through a team selling matrix

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $96,500.00–$144,725.00.
