THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) serves over 500,000 active and retired public-school employees through its defined benefit and defined contribution plans. The agency has nearly 350 employees who serve at varying capacities including: customer service representatives, benefits processers, accountants, and investment and information technology professionals.

This position

serves as a technical lead on virtualized environments within the main data center and the disaster recovery environment. If you can imagine using your information technology experience to help PSERS fulfill our promise of a secure retirement for public-school employees, we want to talk to you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will work independently to direct complex project needs for collaboration and communication in determining the necessity for the involvement of various technical teams (database, network communications, server administration, security administration, procurement, application development, and help desk), ensuring that each team completes assigned tasks as planned and according to schedule. This will include working with other technical staff from other agencies. You will excel in this position if you have experience working with the following hyper-converged operating systems and the associated components:

  • VMWare Hypervisor (Current Level).
  • Nutanix Storage Array and Hypervisor.
  • Virtual Networks and Networking.
  • Troubleshooting and Remediation of the system and associated hardware and software.
  • Patching and Optimization of the systems and the associated hardware firmware and software.
  • Microsoft Servers and Workstations, Microsoft Server 2016 through 2022, and Microsoft Desktop Windows 10/11.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must maintain residency in Pennsylvania and have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, network operation or network maintenance, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services; or
  • One year as an Information Technology Generalist 1, Applications Developer 1, or Network Specialist 1; or
  • Two years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, network operation or network maintenance, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in any information technology field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
