Summary
The Specialist, Compliance is responsible for conducting internal audits to help ensure that Freedom Mortgage and its clients have appropriate processes and methods to effectively comply with applicable federal, state and government regulatory agency requirements regarding mortgage insurance processing and lender placement, thereby reducing the companies’ risk and exposure to potential losses.
Essential Job Functions:
- Utilizes knowledge of applicable Mortgage Banking laws, regulations, and guidance.
- Serves as an independent advisor to Business Unit colleagues and risk management.
- Participates in business management, risk, new product, and project meetings and provides regulatory risk advice as well as ongoing information about new and changing regulatory developments.
- Responsible for reviewing the regulatory risks associated with new Business initiatives, new products & services and process changes, identifying conditions required to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and signing off on the approval process.
- Leverages compliance expertise and experience in the financial services’ industry to provide compliance guidance to the Business Units, review policies, procedures, and processes to identify regulatory risks, and assess the applicability of new and changing laws, regulations, and guidance.
- Accountable for providing sound compliance advice and directing the Business Units on the resolution of compliance-related issues.
- Establishes and cultivates a strong working relationship with the respective Business Unit Risk Management teams to advance the culture and effectiveness of a synchronized approach to risk management in respect of current, new or emerging applicable banking law and regulation as well as internal corporate compliance policy and procedures.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and work place policies. Ability to analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write professional correspondences. Ability to write routine business reports. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or customers. Ability to present formal information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and employees. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, customers and/or the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
